Betico Croes Day is a holiday filled with cultural, sports and musical activities throughout the island. It is a day to commemorate the islands liberator and his efforts on gaining "Status Aparte" from the Dutch Kingdom.
Description
A day to remember the father of the Aruban nation, Gilberto Francois (Betico) Croes, who was born in Santa Cruz on January 25, 1938. A young ambitious schoolmaster/politician who emerged as the driving force for the next generation towards the realization of our new "Status Aparte" in the Dutch Kingdom. This was achieved in 1985 and made official as of 1st January 1986. Mr. Gilberto Francois Croes (better known as "Betico Croes") became the modern "liberator" of the Aruban cause, namely to become an independent partner within the Royal Dutch Kingdom.
The most famous quotation by Betico Croes is undoubtedly: "Si mi cai na caminda, gara e bandera y sigui cu e lucha". Translated: If I might go under along the way, pick up the flag and go on with the fight.

BETICO CROES DAY OFFICIAL PROGRAM AND CEREMONY
After the protocol and ceremonial acts a cultural manifestation will take place with several local artists and bands that may end till late hours in the night. There will be kiosks with local food and drinks at the plaza also recreations for the kids.
BETICO CROES MEMORIAL 10K RUN & 6K WALK
Betico Croes' hometown of Santa Cruz sponsors an amateur road race through hilly terrain. The circular route takes runners through residential neighborhoods and back to the main intersection of Santa Cruz.
