VisitAruba has officially updated its comprehensive “Taxis and Limos” guide to align with the sweeping transit modernization implemented by the Government of Aruba. The updated web page replaces outdated figures from the legacy 2018–2022 rate sheets with the island’s newly mandated, government-regulated transit framework, which officially went into effect on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Following a formal Ministerial Decree on May 18, 2026, the government designated taxi.aw as the island’s single source of truth for all public transport pricing, bringing unprecedented structural and digital changes to local tourism transit.

Major Structural Adjustments for Travelers
The newly updated VisitAruba guide outlines several critical policy changes designed to foster transparency and eliminate fare disputes between visitors and drivers:
- New Minimum Fare: The absolute minimum fare for any taxi ride on the island has been raised to $10.00 USD (18.00 AWG), up from the legacy minimum of $7.00 USD.
- Passenger Capacity Cap: Base fares listed in the official matrix now apply to parties of one to four passengers per vehicle. Under previous rules, up to five passengers could ride under the base rate. Parties of five to seven passengers are now subject to a standardized surcharge of $3.00 USD (5.40 AWG) per extra person.
- Standardized Surcharges: The late-night, Sunday, and national holiday surcharge has been adjusted to a flat $5.00 USD (9.00 AWG) per trip, replacing the legacy $3.00 USD fee. This surcharge applies daily between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM, all day on Sundays, during the holiday block (December 24 through January 1), and on all official Aruban national holidays.
- Trunk Fees: For non-airport and non-hotel transfers, a flat fee of $3.00 USD (5.40 AWG) is applied for utilizing the vehicle’s trunk. On airport transfers, passengers are still permitted one standard suitcase and one carry-on free of charge, with excess bags billed at $3.00 USD each.
Unprecedented Consumer Protections
To resolve historic issues with overcharging, the Government of Aruba now legally requires all authorized taxis to permanently display a highly visible QR code inside the vehicle. When scanned by a passenger’s smartphone, this QR code redirects immediately to the official taxi.aw live zone-to-zone fare calculator.
In the event of a rate dispute or service violation, the updated VisitAruba page provides travelers with direct channels to report incidents to the Department of Public Transportation (DTP) via email at info@dtp.gov.aw or by phone at +297 594 8660.
With these comprehensive updates, VisitAruba ensures that international visitors have access to the most accurate, secure, and legally compliant transportation data, easing arrival stress and supporting a modernized, digital-first tourism economy.
