The first South American Youth Games held in Lima, Peru resulted in being very successful for the Aruba delegation.

Monday afternoon the Aruba delegation returned from Lima, Peru. The Aruba Olympic Committee, a large group of friends, parents and family were on hand to welcome then all back home.

Secretary General of COA, Nicole Hoevertsz indicated that she was very pleased with the final results. Our young athletes demonstrated that through hard work they can reach very high levels of performance. The majority of the athletes from especially big countries will be present at the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she indicated.

With 8 medals during the different competitions, it is safe to say that the games were very successful for our young athletes. This was certainly the result of hard work by each of the players as well as from the coaches who guided them in the best ways possible.

The sports for which they won medals in Lima, Peru were: swimming, cycling, taekwondo, Judo and windsurfing. BMX, came in second place and route cycling won the race against the clock, yet without winning a medal due to the point system in Peru.

Congratulations to all our athletes and the entire Aruba delegation for a tremendous performance in Lima, Peru…you did great!
