Last Saturday afternoon four Aruba Table Tennis athletes left Aruba to Guatemala. The athletes are: Jeandry Mathilda, Jean-Claude Hoek, Sjoerd Geurtsen and Johnatan Paredes. These four players will compete for Aruba in the Latin American Championship. The championship will be from October 10th to October 14th. In the U-11 category, Aruba will be represented by Sjed Geurtsen and Johmatan Paredes, while in the U-13 category Aruba will be represented by Jean-Claude Hoek and Jeandry Mathilda. Aruba is competing in three categories, which are teams, doubles and singles.
In the month of August, Aruba’s Table Tennis athletes represented Aruba in the Caribbean Championship in Guyana. In view of their tremendous presentation they are invited back by the organization assisting the Latin American Championship in Guatemala. One remarkable note is since May these athletes have been training intensively. They also attended a training camp in Santiago, Santo Domingo. There they succeeded in winning various medals and a gold cup, as well as silver and bronze from the Caribbean Championship held in Guyana.
The Subsidy Commission of the Lotto Foundation for Sports sees this as an important progress for our young athletes. For this reason Lotto is supporting this event financially to give our tennis athletes the opportunity to go and compete, gain experience and measure themselves against other countries in Latin America. These young people are the future of Aruba. We must support them and help them to progress in their sport!
