Last Tuesday King Willem-Alexander became Europe's youngest monarch. Beatrix shed a tear before signing the act of abdication and a cry went up from the crowd witnessing the signing on a giant screen in front of the palace. A star-studded rendition of the Koningslied was broadcast live from Rotterdam and watched by the royal family on the banks of the IJ river. Also Aruba participated, at exactly 1:30pm children on stage and the public at the Linear Park started to sing the Koninglied to celebrate the new king.

Aruban windsurfing world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa is appointed as youngest Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau). The Order of Orange-Nassau is a chivalry order founded in 1892 by Queen Emma of the Netherlands.
