Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort Awarded Green Globe Platinum

Holding the most eco-designations in the Caribbean, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort just achieved its 16th annual Green Globe certification and the new elite status of Green Globe Platinum.

With an outstanding score of 98 out of 100, Bucuti continues its mission of making rewarding vacations and sustainable tourism mutually inclusive. Worldwide more than 500 businesses—hotels, resorts and attractions—meet the prestigious Green Globe certification. Of those, 64 are Gold certified and only two including Bucuti are Platinum certified.

Green Globe is the premier worldwide certification and performance improvement program developed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. It assists organizations to improve their economic, social and environmental sustainability while being rewarded and recognized for it. The Green Globe Standard provides organizations with a framework to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their environmental sustainability performance, through which they can set standards, monitor improvements and achieve certification. A selection of more than 380 compliance indicators is applied to 44 individual certification criteria. The applicable indicators vary by type of certification, geographical area as well as local factors. To achieve recertification, Bucuti had to maintain compliance with the 44 core criteria while also progressing annually in accordance with previous results of audits.

“Bucuti associates work together daily to provide a safe, healthy and sustainable vacation experience that benefits our guests as well as the world we share,” says Ewald Biemans, founder and CEO of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort and regional sustainable tourism pioneer. “Achieving Green Globe Platinum, under the guidance of our Sustainability Manager Arnold Solognier, confirms that our team is committed to the rigorous standards of certification and the essential preservation of our environment.”

At the annual Caribbean Hospitality Industry Exchange Forum this past week, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort was also honored as a top finalist for the CHIEF Award for Best Practices in Environmental Sustainability, by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
