Animal Rights Aruba
Summary
Animal Rights Aruba (A.R.A) is a non-profit Animal Welfare Organization that aims to protect all fauna, flora, and marine life on and around the island of Aruba. As well the great name of our island towards our tourism.
Description
ARA was founded on May 3, 1999 and is run solely by volunteers, including the 5 new board members. It is affiliated with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), which is supported by the United Nations as well as the Council of Europe.
The main goal of ARA is to relieve the suffering and hardships of the Island's animal population. ARA would like to continue working with the veterinarian clinics on the Nationwide Sterilization Program to reduce the population of dogs and cats. Therefore, affordable spaying and neutering of pets is high on the list of the ARA, the target group being in particular those households within the community that cannot afford the relative high cost of this one-time treatment.
In addition, ARA is convinced that setting up a dynamic education program on the care and rights of animals will encourage the community to assist ARA in the protection of local animals. When targeting this particular goal, one carries in mind the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
