Stimami Sterilisami Announces Free Spay & Neuter Procedures for All Dogs and Cats Starting August 20, 2025

Fundashon Stimami Sterilisami is thrilled to announce that, beginning Wednesday, August 20, all spay and neuter procedures will be completely free of charge at participating veterinary clinics that are part of its national spay and neuter program. This renewed commitment to universal access is made possible through the collective generosity of the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF), the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, and other loyal donors.

Where to Access Free Sterilization
Starting August 20, pet owners and rescue foundations can register for free sterilization procedures through our website at www.stimamisterilisami.com. Once registered, participants will receive a registration number, which they must bring to one of our participating veterinary clinics: VSH Veterinary Specialty Hospital or Caduary Veterinary Clinic.

Alternatively, registration can also be done through Animal Welfare Alliance Aruba (AWAA), an independent, no-cost spay and neuter clinic that partners with Stimami Sterilisami as part of this initiative. To do so, send an email to Help@awa-aruba.org or a WhatsApp message to +297 5929777.

Why Sterilization Matters
Aruba faces one of the highest stray animal densities in the Caribbean. Unwanted litters fuel a cycle of overpopulation that overwhelms rescue shelters, strains public resources, and diminishes both the local quality of life and the island’s tourism image. A single unspayed dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies, and a cat and her descendants can produce over 11 million kittens in six years. By stopping this exponential growth at the source, through spaying and neutering, we prevent suffering before it starts, reduce pressure on shelters, and stabilize the stray population.

Sterilization also delivers direct health and behavioral benefits for pets by lowering the risk of cancers and infections, improving behavior, and sparing owners the costs of unwanted litters. It fosters a cleaner environmentand safer neighborhoods, reducing animal-related road accidents and minimizing waste in public spaces, and enhances the vibrant community and tourism landscape of our island.

Over the past eight years, Stimami Sterilisami has subsidized more than 41,000 sterilizations, dramatically reducing the number of stray animals on our island and preventing countless litters. Earlier this year, the program covered 100% of costs for rescue organizations and 50% for individual pet owners, but thanks to this surge of support, including doubled contributions from both TPEF and ATA (Afl. 200,000 each) and Afl. 400,000 from Bucuti & Tara, this vital service is once again free for all dogs and cats.

A Coalition of Compassion
Stimami Sterilisami was established by Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in 2016, and the resort has remained the foundation’s largest donor and driving force ever since. From its inception, the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) has been a dedicated partner, providing consistent support that now totals over Afl. 850,000. The Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) has likewise been an incredible supporter for many years, recognizing that humane population control directly enhances both community welfare and Aruba’s tourism product.

We are also grateful for the generosity of other partners who strengthen this coalition. One Love Foundation, a U.S.-based nonprofit that began supporting Stimami in 2021, raises funds abroad to help Aruba’s animals and has made an extraordinary impact by bringing international support to our local cause. This year, the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA) joined with a contribution of Afl. 5,000, and we warmly acknowledge the many other private donors and organizations whose contributions, large and small, ensure that cost is never a barrier for families and rescuers seeking to spay or neuter their pets.
