Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba and is named after 'Huis van Oranje' (Orange House), the name of the Dutch Royal Family in 1824 during the Dutch colonization. Most of Aruba's government buildings are located in Oranjestad. You'll find great shopping throughout Main Street, Royal Plaza Mall, Renaissance Marketplace, and more.
You will also find merchants selling local arts, crafts and souvenirs alongside the marina as well as across from the cruise ship terminal. Downtown Oranjestad features plenty of traditional Dutch multicolored buildings, museums and great restaurants spread throughout the area.
Don't forget to wear comfortable walking shoes, bring your camera and wear sunscreen and sunglasses if you're visiting during the day, the sun in Aruba is strong!
