Due to the recent backlog in issuing passports, the U.S. government announced that U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda may depart and enter the U.S. with proof of application for a U.S. passport. Passengers must have all required entry documents for the destination and any connecting countries in addition to the proof of passport application. This exemption is valid until September 30, 2007.
