I am leaving for Aruba the second week in Febuary. I am so excited I could burst! Where I live in NY we have some snow and very cold temperatures. I am ready for some fun in the sun! My family and I have been visiting Aruba during Christmas to New Year's week for the past 5 years. We love it there so much that we have just bought a 2 weej time share along the beach. Aruba is One Happy Island!! The restaurants are superb, taxi drivers very friendly, and the sun is the best you can expect every day of your stay. Paul I read Diario when I am in Aruba and have heard that it can be accessed on the internet. Until now, I have only been able to find occasional summaries of articles from Bon Dia. I enjoy being able to keep up with what is happening on the island, which is hard to find in the English newspapers. I also enjoy reading the classifieds, e un poco di bliki bliki tambe. I was involved, along with Tres Dunlap and Joe Van Ogtrop, in placing the "Aruba Cross" behind the Esso Club in 50 feet of water at the first drop-off. We dove many of the reefs in Aruba, and made many dives off of Colorado Point in the '60's. It's always good to say hello to others who share our enthusiasm for "the Rock", and we return whenever we can to the place where we grew up. THE PEOPLE WORKING THERE CAN'T DO ENOUGH FOR YOU.THE FOOD AT THE HOTEL WAS VERY GOOD AND THE PRICES ARE REASONABLE. YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF EITHER A KITCHENETTE OR A JACUZZI. I love Aruba! I have been visiting the island for years and look forward to it every time. The island is peaceful, the people are friendly and the sun hugs you like a warm blanket. The natives were not all that friendly and they certainly don't speak English all that well. 4. Service was ridiculously slow at places like SUBWAY and DUNKIN" DONUTS, etc. 5. Poor signage on all the roadways(exception- the hotels and California Lighthouse). Difficult to find any of the sights. 6. The steak at El Gaucho's was lousy and our waitress "Mercedes" could have had the place named "EL GROUCHO'S" ! 7. Forget the shopping buys downtown- there aren't any(also parking for tourists is poorly marked downtown). The GOOD: 1. The beaches. 2. The Hyatt and the Marriot(we stayed at Casa Del Mar). 3. Excellent restaurants-Papiamento, Valentino's, the Driftwood, California Lighthouse, to name a few. 4. The female impersonators show at the Royal Cabana. I'm looking for a motivated seller so that I can move there I hope that I find one soon a cappotto Hello I just returned from an Aruba Honeymoon heaven on earth. I went there in jan.with my boyfriend we got engaged there.. Got married Sept. 5-98 & went back for honeymoon. The island is as close to heaven as you can get. Its out of the hurricane belt always sunny & the people are wonderful. Just one thing to remember, if you go duty free shopping, if you bye anything over $600.00 mail your receipts home. I was told to do that & i forgot, well U.S. customs stopped us & searched us even our bodies found my receipts & i wasn`t leaving the airport until i payed $341.00 in duty tax & $500.00 fine for not reporting it. That was a real nice welcome home from our wonderful honeymoon. Oh well just thought i`d pass that bit of info. on to anyone that wasn`t awear of it because i know we wern`t. We did not like that because there are so many other interesting places to eat. The new (then) condos in the rear wid not add to the ambiaence. Beware, the beach is subject to erosion so check before you go. Air Aruba packs you in but it gets you there in a hurry. I am not certain if they are still in operation. Otherwise you go via Puerto Rico which causes some delay. Ray If Aruba isn't heaven, it has to be close to it. It included use of a car, airport pickup and a complete kitchen, stocked for breakfast. All manner of amenities were available: picnic coolers, beach chairs, books, snorkles, masks, clothes line, hose, daily maid and car care service, lots of beautiful tropical foliage, and the wonderful Aruban wind! There was one thing missing: no flying bugs or insects to bother us on the cool patio in the shady breeze! I was born in Aruba and raised at Lago Colony, so I think Aruba is the most wonderful place in the world. And, of course, I am right!
