Aruba Trip Report - Allegro Beach Resort
May 11, 2002
Sent in by: Patty & mel

We started out on Fri. May 11,2002 from Pitsburgh International Airport onto connecting flight in Philly. No problems whatsoever.Smooth flight. Upon our arrival at the airport everything went very smooth once again no problems. We got to the Allegro about 2:00 in the afternoon. Check in went without a hitch we were given room 535,very nice.We were told the lunch buffet was open to 2:30 and naturally we were starved so we headed to lunch. Since the buffet was almost over there was not much of a selection we were able to order from the menu. The staff could not have been nicer. Then we headed for the beach. We had been to aruba 10 years before and I must say that it has become more populated and a lot moe commercialized. there were quite a few more boats in the water from what I remember not overcrowded just more Aruba lovers' I guess. This time it did seem as if the breezes were a little stronger and the water is definitely not as clear as I remember. The second and third day we spent our time at the pool and the beach just eating and drinking whenever we wanted, whatever we wanted and just vegetating!!!!!! it was wonderful!!!!! Have needed that for quite along time!!!!! We went to mass on sunday night at St. Anna's...quite a different experience there, they say the mass in their language which makes it kind of hard to follow along. Mon. morning we headed for town to do some shopping. Spent most of the day there. By the time that dinner time came we were ready to head back to our hotel for a swim and dinner. That night we took a long walk on the beach under the moonlight. Just beautiful!!!! Tues morning we went on the 4.5 hour bus trip. The other side of the island is just gorgeous!!!! If you have not seen the natural bridge it is a must!!!! We saw the Aroriak cave and the lighthouse. Our tour guide Howard was very entertaining. I think that 4.5 hours was long enough I do not think that a tour that is longer would be as enjoyable. The last stop is the Baby Beach where you can snorkel or just swim if you like. It is a beautiful beach ,very blue water ,kind of like the water I remember all the beaches had. Then once again dinner at the buffet and the show. went to the casino at the hotel this night , I got lucky and won $ 250.00 !!!!!!! First time I ever won anything. The rest of the week we did a lot of walking, that is what we like to do so we walked on the beach, tried to make it all the way to the Tam but had to turn around at about half way it was just to hot. One night we ate at Papayas and had the prime rib. It was excellent!!!!! then thursday night we ate at Caruso's also an absolutely wonderful experience. The shows at the hotel are very entertaining, well worth going to. One night they had a fun night asking about who was there to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. and because my husband and I were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary the emcee called us up on stage and gave us 20.00 in coin for the casino and some other vouchers and a couple decks of cards. It was a lot of fun. We were not there to do alot just kind of relax and unwind and it fit the bill. We are planning our next trip back hopefully in about 2 years. We are already talking about doing the submarine trip and my husband would like to do the sea trek (not too sure about that one!!!) but we shall see. When we go again we will most likely stay at the Allegro. The staff is just great and they treat you like a king. What more could a person want????!!!!
