Aruba is awesome! My boyfriend and I got back Sunday from a week long stay at the Allegro.
(May 5-12) Don't listen to what these uptight people are saying about this resort, if you
ask me they are just snobs, and who wants to be in a hotel full of snobs anyway? True the
rooms could use some renovation, and the buffet isn't the greatest, but who would want to
spend anytime in doors while in aruba? The breakfast buffet was OK.. I usually don't eat a
full breakfast everyday but the omelet guy was pretty good and you can even get an egg
white omelet.. They also had all the usual stuff.. bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast,
My boyfriend liked it. The buffet lunch wasn't as good.. They have a nacho station,
burgers and dogs.. Nothing to exciting, and I don't eat much meat so there wasn't a whole
lot of choice.. We only did lunch there 2 times, I suggest eating your lunches at Papays..
Much better. On Wed there was a BBQ on the beach which was kinda good. We never did the
Buffet for dinner, we managed to go to Caruso's 3 times and having worked in Italian
restaurants and being from NY I thought "How good can it be?" Well it was
incredible! Some of the best Italian food we ever had!!! (so go there as often as you can)
There is so much to do in Aruba we suggest that you stay for 10 days to 2 weeks if you
can. We had something going on everyday we were there, and we never got a chance to just
relax! Sunday we arrived at 2 PM and rented a Rocsta from Amigo car rental. (make sure you get the visit Aruba plus card.. we
saved $40 on the Jeep for the week) Rocsta'a look like Jeep wranglers and pretty much do
the same things, good car to have if you plan on exploring the island. We got to the hotel
before the rest of the people and had no problem checking in early. That after noon we
went to the beach and enjoyed our "free drinks" Even though you pay for all
inclusive you really save on drinks and food in the long run. We went to the Hyatt one
night with another couple and a round of drinks was over $50.. So don't go there. Please
make sure you tip the bar staff and waiters! You have to know they don't really see the
small percentage of the gratuity that is part in the all inclusive package, For the
buffets we left a few dollars and at caruso's we would leave at least $20 per couple. So
many people just got up and left and it was very very rude! That night we took a cab into
town and went to Carlos and Charlies.. It was fun just like Senor Frogs in Cancun, Just
look out for the trampy women that go to this place, My boyfriend got hit on a lot and
they don''t take no for an answer. Monday we met up with a couple from our airplane and
rented wave runners with them.. my advice.. Wear goggles! Between the salt water and
sunscreen in my eyes I couldn't see a thing! Tuesday we went on a 4 wheeling adventure
with Rancho Diamari..
It was crazy! I couldn't steer the thing and there were steep hills, cliffs and rocks
everywhere! I ended up abandoning my quad and riding on the back of the guides. I felt
much safer with Jose in charge.. We went to the Natural bridge and a gold mine, Very cool
things to see. Wednesday we went shopping in town, got a few things but I would have
rather stayed on the beach. Thursday we went to Baby beach, For a small Island it sure
takes a long time to get places! There are no signs for anything so you have to ask the
locals a lot. The water at Baby beach was much clearer then at the hotel. I was expecting
Bahama clear water but it was very cloudy form the wind blowing the sand around. Thursday
night we went on the KuKu Kanuko bar hopping bus tour! This was the best thing we did all
week. They pick you up in this funky bus and take you to the light house for a champagne
toast and then off to this huge house for dinner, then to 3 bars! It was a really fun
time, everyone should do it (but watch out for the tramps at Carlos and Charlies) Friday
we took our Rocsta in search of the Natural pool. We were told by Amigo that we weren't allowed to go there but they lied, you can get
there if you have a 4 wheel drive car. It is also hard to find and scary to get to but it
is a very cool thing to see. If you do go and want to swim in the pool bring sandals or
water socks because it is all slimy rocks and crabs and it is difficult to get in and out
bare foot. Friday night we did the Tatoo boat dinner cruise.. Don't waste you money. it
was like a floating ecstasy night club. The slide and the Tarzan rope were cool but you
can take a day snorkeling trip with them for less money. Saturday we went on the Depalm
snorkeling trip on a huge catamaran, they take you to some coral reefs and a ship wreck.
they also serve a nice lunch. Sat night we had dinner again at Caruso' s and Sunday after
noon we headed home.. Don't take the Depalm bus back to the airport! It is suggested you
get to the airport 2 hours in advance, Depalm picks you up 4 hours early! Since we had our
car we left at 12 dropped off the car and were thru customs at 1 PM for a 2:50 flight.. We
had no lines at all because everyone on our flight had checked in 2 hours earlier and was
just sitting around the airport... I don't know about you but I would rather spend my last
hours in Aruba in the pool!
The Allegro is a great hotel.. The only bad thing about it is the Gym.. only 3 tread
mills, 2 bikes, one stairmaster and a junky universal thing with some free weights. But it
was better then nothing! We visited some others and we weren't impressed, sure they were
fancy, but they were cold and there wasn't much going on. The Allegro has fun activities
going on all day long. We were there at a slow time so it wasn't so easy to get people
motivated to participate (especially in Volley ball) but we managed. If you do play say hi
to MoMo.. We plan on going back to Aruba and staying at the Allegro is the only way to go!
Have fun!!!
