Aruba Trip Report: Marriott Resort
Travel dates: not disclosed
Sent in by: David B. Royen

My family and I spent 6 wonderful days at the Marriott Beach Resort and naturally had a great time. The hotel staff was very courteous and attentive. Our room was on the north side of the hotel (560) which afforded an excellent view of the north end of the island and the lighthouse . The Marriott is the last hotel at the end of Palm beach so there is an unobstructed view to the north. One little problem was that the kitchen and service entrances are on this side of the hotel so evenings on the balcony were just a little less than tranquil but not enough so to bother anyone's sleep. Our first meal was in the hotel restaurant, just some sandwiches. Very nice and reasonably priced.

We went to Sole Mare the following night for Italian. Excellent food and service.

Next night was the Buccaneer. Loaded with aquariums-the decor is underwater looking up to see the surface of the ocean above you. VERY reasonable prices and the food was good.

Iguana Joes in Oranjestad was very good food although the service was slow.

We were very pleased with Salt and Pepper food but the service was lacking. Still I recommend it.

One of the biggest dining surprises was right next door at the little beach cafe tucked in between the Marriott and the Holiday Inn called Hadicurari. I had passed it numerous times on walks paying it no attention. One afternoon the three of us checked it out for lunch. The lunch menu was burgers and such...except for the Fresh catch of the day. That day it was grilled Mahi Mahi with some local vegetables, corn and polenta..It was EXCELLENT! And I could not believe the price was only $7.25. Best meal I ever had for that little money. Check it out!

As Caribbean vacations goes, Aruba has a lot going for it. The prices seemed very reasonable to me though I don't know if they are inflated during the high season. Compared to Grand Cayman the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable.

As Arnold S. says..."I'LL BE BACK!"
