Casa del Mar / Aruba Beach Club- Trip Report

June 23 - 30, 2001

Great week as always(June 23-30). Stayed at Casa del Mar since timeshare owner. No bugs, no rain, lots of sun, and great breeze. Breeze was a bit strong on a few days but that's Aruba. Went to a couple of restaurants that we haven't been to in a couple of years. Would rate the restaurants in this order: Le Dome, Madame Janet, Old Cunucu House, Gasparito, French Steakhouse, Pirates' Nest, Driftwood, Alfredo's. This was a composite rating from wife, daughter and myself. Since we like seafood and Aruban dishes most steakhouses will be left out. Comments: Please call for reservations a day ahead for the top 4 or you may not get a time you like. No reservations needed for Pirates' Nest and Alfredo's. Appetizers that were great: Seafood Crepe at French Steakhouse and Aruban Fish Soup at Old Cunucu House & Gasparito. Deserts: Flan at French Steakhouse. A couple of the restaurants wife was too tired to go to. I always get a few looks when I'm with daughter(old man with young woman). A lot of the restaurants have web sites that have complete menus listed. Also new free book called "Menu" that your resort may have. List about 25 restaurants with a sample of their menu and other info. Great small maps included if using rental car. If you are looking for a Web Site just Post a message and am sure you will get a answer.

Sunset was around 7:05. If looking for sailboat ride with sun covered areas try Sea Star or Tatoo. Didn't go on them but they past only about 50 yards off beach. Each looked to have a inside cabin area and a covered area on deck. Didn't go on a single tour this time around. If looking for the right one go to www.aruba-bb.com/ and click on Aruba Reference Page. Then click on Things To Do. You can spend hours looking through all those sites. Before going to Aruba copy phone # if really like a certain tour. The Resorts have a tour desk but some only sell certain ones. The resort next to yours might sell it or call for reservations.  Divi or Tam. Never stayed at either but walked all around both and looking at beaches and view of resorts I would pick Divi.
Bucuti - Great beach. If you do not want all the people and activities of the high rises this is the place. Few children and some topless but beach is very big. Stick flag in sand if you care for a drink while on beach.
Cruise Ship Schedule: www.cruisearuba.com/ During summer only one per week(Fridays).   Cell Phones: www.dantelnv.com/ Have to rent one. Ones from the States will not work in Aruba.

Jacket & Tie for men: Leave both at home. A couple of the finer restaurants require nice shirt and long casual slacks for the men. Polo shirts and nice shorts is normal dress for men at other restaurants. But feel free to dress up at any restaurant.
