Aruba Trip Report: Wyndham Resort
June 21 - June 26, 2001
Sent in by: Noemi Diaz

Let me just start by saying how wonderful Aruba is and the Wyndham!!! In my opinion, the best resort on Palm Beach. Actually, it seems it's the only REAL highrise w/18 floors.

Ok, Left JFK @ 10:30am(FIRST CLASS, it's a beautiful thing!!) American Airlines. Flight left on time, arrived in Aruba a bit early, around 2:35pm. Immigration/Customs was a total Breeze, Airport in Aruba seemed empty. Calm. Not Hectic. So we got our bags, and waited for the Depalm tranfer bus to the Wyndham. Waited like 5 minutes. Boarded nice a/c'd bus. There was a Host on board giving us info on Aruba, then we were off to Wyndham, second stop. It was WONDERFUL!!! The bellhops were so friendly, Tony is the best!!! Check-in was a breeze. We got a superior room which is a room on the 8-12 floor. We got a room on the 12 floor, #1226. Try to get a room on a high floor even #'s. To get a good ocean view get a room # that ends in like 16 (ex:1216, 1214, 1212, 1210) to get a good ocean view. Our Balcony had pool/Ocean View. Nice room!!! Very modern, iron fixtures, down feather pillows and comforter. Marble Bathroom, nice size ROOM! Bath & Body works toiletries.REALLY CLEAN. Plenty of towels!!! It was really nice. We were delivered a bouquet of flowers(roses/exotic flowers) from Cristina Gallindo at the Concierge!! Thanks CRISTINA! Then Champagen followed!! We changed and went straight to the beach. Took a dip in the crystal clear water, and tanned. Then got ready for dinner( I will do dinner reports in sequence in a bit, keep reading).

Pool Area-AWESOME!!! The service at the Wyndham is really the best!!! Area was clean, nice pool w/fountains and waterfall. They pass the frozen fruits, frozen towel clothes, they spritz you w/water if you want to cool down, they have a great selection of CD's w/personal cd players and headsets!!! books/magazines!! They lounge chairs of a nice cushion, very comfy. There are Iguanas by the pool area, but don't bother them, they won't bother you. They are cute!! They come out around noon. Parrots are nice too, they have like 3 cages by the pool area, really nice parrots. They say Hello, Hello, Hola, Hola. Real Cute, and beautiful. Service again, is incredible at the Wyndham, I read reviews on the other highrises, and none mention this kind of service. So just because they have a big corporate name doesn't mean, service and decor is good. I saw some of the other highrises(marriot), and their decor is dated, very 80's/90's. Wyndham has a modern flair, lots of marble/iron fixtures, and really nice funky artwork. The paintings are like something you would see at MOMA in NYC(Museum of Modern Art). The Lobby is great, very clean. Wyndham has one of the best resorts in the caribbean, they own The Conquistador in Puerto Rico, which is one of the best resorts in the whole caribbean!!! You can't go wrong w/Wyndham. Actually it's the only REAL highrise in Aruba it has 18 floors. The others seem lower.

Beach-The best beach I've been to. Water is crystal clear, clean. Get a hut before 8am, I liked hut #8. They get you the chairs and towels and set them up by your hut. It is windy, overall in aruba. But it's so welcoming, the SUN IS BRUTAL!!! Very intense. So the winds are welcoming. That's just how Aruba is.

Snorkeling-We did the Pelican Snorkel/Sail tour for 2.5 hrs, for $29 pp. Great deal. Pier is by the holiday inn. They take you to a coral and to the Antilla shipwreck(great fish!!). Leaves the pier at 2pm back at 4:30. Nice catamarn, you can tan while they sail. Open Bar!! Great drink=ARUBA RIBA!! Snacks, Gear included, and instructions. Best value on snorkeling.

You can take taxi's everywhere for dinner. To go into Oranjestad( Center of town) take the bus, it's $2 roudtrip. Oranjestad is nice for shopping and lunch, go to Iguana Joes, good lunch!!

Dinners-First night-PAPIAMENTO'S-Best Restaurant in the island. Romantic, good food, service A1. Outdoors dining, trees lite up w/white xmas lights. small pool in the middle. The house around the eating area is like a victorian bed & breakfast, you can get a tour after dinner. I had a dish called the twins, two filet mignons, cooking on a stone. 2 appetizers, small bottle of wine, 2 entrees, coffee, $80 total. A MUST DO!!!

Second night-French Steakhouse @ Manchebo- Great value, best value, elegant dining. $30 PP, 5 course meal. Appetizer, Soup/Salad, entree(filet mignon), dessert, coffee. Great dinner.

Third night-TATTOO PARTY CRUISE-A total blast!!! $49 pp, includes dinner(BBQ Chix/Ribs, rice, salad, bread) drinks are $2. ARuba Riba's are the best there!!! Great DJ/Band, so much fun!!! 4 hours!!! It sails around the island!! from 8-12. At the end you can jump off the swing rope, or slide down the spiral slide! Bring a bathing suit for that. LOL.

Fourth Night-Madame Janettes-Great out door dining. Service was excellent. Decor was similar to Papiamento's, preferred the food at Papiamiento's better. $70 for two(appetizer, entree, dessert, coffee)

Fifth night-El Gaucho- BESt STEAK!!! Churrasco is the best. Service was fast and very good. A MUST DO!!! $60 for two.

I loved Aruba!!! Best vacation! Wyndham treats you like Royalty. Very nice resort and grounds. Clean, and the best service ever. If you want a great resort, with excellent service, and a great room, go for the Wyndham!!! It's the highest resort on the island.
