We stayed again at the Allegro
Resort from May 20 to May 27, 2001. Last trip was October, 2000. Our room, again, was fine
- room 504 facing the pool and with a partial ocean view. (It is considered a standard
room) Last October we upgraded - stayed on the 9th floor - same room, just a wee bit
better view - not worth the upgrade fees!) The room was clean and the King sized bed was
very comfortable. The rooms are generally typical hotel
rooms, but the maid service, again, was fine. The one thing that had changed from last
October was the food. We went all- inclusive both times. This time, we felt the food in
general was not quite as good. (Even the breakfast buffet was so-so.) We even noticed some
"re-dos" from the night before both in the buffets and on the menus; lunches had
cookies as the dessert; get the cranberry juice early at the breakfast buffet because they
don't refill it!). The food was the one and only drawback and it was not a major complaint
but we would now rank their food as average! Everyone we met at the resort - both
times - were wonderful and would try to help us have a good time in any way that they
could. We especially enjoyed talking again with our friend QUINTINA at the pool bar - what
a terrific, beautiful lady!! Also, MICHAEL at the pool bar and sometimes in the lounge bar
was fun and witty, as he was last October. This time we also
met ALLEN at the lounge bar - what a terrific bartender. (My two
twenty-something sons kept him and Quintina very busy the entire week, we're sure!) Many
people on the Allegro staff remembered or recognized us from October, even those whose
names we don't know. Everyone was so gracious and friendly and really seemed glad to see
us back at the resort. Be sure if you go all-inclusive to dine at Caruso's. The waiters
are outstanding there and were very entertaining last October and again in May.
You can be as busy or as laid-back as you wish at the Allegro. No one bothers you to
participate if you choose to relax, but activities are there if you want to stay busy.
I walked down both sides of the beach from the resort, and I would have to say that the
beach from the Hyatt next door down toward the direction of the Wyndham and the Phoenix
seems a little wider than the beach area from the Holiday Inn side of the Hyatt & on
down that way. The pool and swim up bar at the Allegro are great. The pool is clean and
seems safe enough for kids with supervision, of course. The staff at the resort casino
was, again, friendly, and we thought the dealers were friendlier this time, too. We did
visit the casinos (again) at the Hyatt and at the Raddison. The Hyatt is a little too
quiet for our tastes. The Raddison is fine, and the dealer called "Batman" was
alot of
fun. (I was afraid to ask him about his nackname! LOL.)
The casino at the Allegro definitely seemed to have more people hitting on the slots on
Friday night, but, of course, more people were there on the weekend. Drinks are free at
the casinos we played if you are playing slots or tables. Overall, we would definitely
stay at the Allegro again, but we probably wouldn't go the All-Inclusive route. Aruba is
great for the sun worshipers, like me, and we didn't mind the wind - which was stronger in
May than last October. Don't be put off by the very little rain you may have in a day, or
even by the wind, because both blow over quickly. Aruba ranks as our number two favorite
vacation spot in general, right behind the Turks and Caicos Islands, but Aruba's weather
is more predictable and the sun almost always seems to be shining! Also, there is more
nightlife in Aruba. But T & C is the place to go to get away totally and really relax!
Have a wonderful vacation, wherever you choose to go. We hope this trip report helps in
your choice!
