Aruba Trip Report - Aruba Grand Resort

April 14 - 21, 2001

I booked our family vacation (2 kids, 14 and 9) through Apple vacations. I must say I was apprehensive after we booked and I looked at the trip reports on this site. But my worries for for nothing! The Aruba Grand must have greatly improved over the last year, because it was wonderful! A nice big room, doormen that couldnt help you fast enough, excellent maid service, good food............all A+. I did hear some people complain that there were no coffee pots in the rooms, but it wasn't important to us.

The flight was on Ryan International........nice plane, but very cramped. We expected this from reading the BB though, so we were ready for it. Very nice flight attendants.

In addition to enjoying our beautiful pool and beach area, we also took some side trips. First up was horseback riding at Rancho Campo, a trip to the natural pool. We had a blast, and it ended up being our favorite side trip. However, be warned that it is not a "walking" horse ride with broken down nags. These horses ran a lot of the way, up and down hills. I was a little nervous about the 9 year old but he did fine.

We also went snorkling at DePalm Island. It was ok, nice coral. My sons and hubby also took a half day fishing trip. My son caught 2 big fish, the biggest on the boat, so he was thrilled. We had the chef at our hotel cook the fish the next day for lunch, and it was delicious. We rented a car for 3 days, which was plenty of time to see the island. We opted for a car rather than taking an organized jeep tour so we could take our time and be on our own schedule. Plus, it was a lot cheaper.

We only had one bad meal, and that was at a chinese buffet. I think my favorite meal was at Paparazzi. My sons liked Texas de Brazil the best, and my hubby Brisas Del Mar. We also had good meals at Tony Romas, Driftwood, and Iguana Joes.

You know, I am usually ready to go home at the end of a vacation.........but not this time. I loved Aruba........very sad to leave.

Holly
