Amsterdam Manor Trip
Report
January 28 - February 3, 2001

My wife Diane and I just got back
from 7 great days in Aruba. We used this sight often in planning our trip, and in the
things we did. Its only fair that we report our experience. First of all Aruba was great!
We felt completely safe, the entire time. The weather was a warm 86 everyday, and you
could sit outside all evening long if you wanted to. The trade winds are a welcome relief
in the afternoon. The Resort we chose because of the package deal that was offered the
last 2 weeks prior to booking through Sun Country. It wouldn't have been my first choice,
but you couldn't beat the price and location. The rooms were clean and had a small fridge,
stovetop, toaster, and coffee maker. Some friends ( Hi! Anne & Jeff) were bumped up to
a one bedroom unit and that was like a small apartment. The Manor is small but they
definately try their best to
help you. We saw about half of the other resorts and were most impressed by the Radison,
Holiday Inn and the La Cabana.
When I am in a place like Aruba, I concentrate on the good things in life and don't let
minor matters upset us We ate at a number of good restauraunts, the place we had the best
meal and time at was Twinkletones. Tremendous Lobster, and shrimp, and the evening
show will put you in a good mood. Barbara the owner made sure we had a good time
and meal. We had a bad meal at the Waterfront Crabhouse, my wife ended up with a minor
case of food poisening. They were not worth the price we paid. But the worse meal we had
was at the Royal Cabana seafood buffet. Stay away from this place at all costs. Iguano
Joes was a great restaurant that we went to twice. Not nearly as expensive as other meals
and with a great menu. I liked the Keshi Jena and the jerk chicken. Read the daily Aruba
newspaper for coupons and show events. Talk to other people once your there for more
current restaurant information.
We did a bunch of the tourist trips with DePalm tours, and Aruba is one
place where everyone can admit they are tourists and be proud of it. The
best thing we did though was rent a jeep one day and go sightseeing on the
other side of the island, it was a blast. We followed the other jeep tours some of the
time. The jeep paths can't be called roads and don't follow a map real close. But that is
half the adventure. If I wanted to follow a map and drive on good roads I would have
stayed home. The bus schedule is so very easy and cheap you don't need a car the whole
week. My opinion of Aruba is that everyone should go at least once in their lives. The
ease of being in a foreign country and yet have everyone speak english, take US money, and
is happy to see you there and not just for your tourist dollar, makes Aruba a special
place. It is impossible to enjoy all of Aruba in just one 7 day trip, I am sure we will be
returning to One Happy Island.
