Aruba Trip Report - Allegro Beach Resort
January 6 - January 9, 2001

We left Boston on a snowy day and landed in paradise. We stayed at the Allegro, and it
certainly was a pleasant surprise after reading various message boards. We had a beautiful
room on the 9th floor, great view, but that doesn't make too much difference to me. My
goal for this trip was to relax, and not even think about work. Our daily routine didn't
vary much. Wake up, beach/pool for several hours, eat lunch (or late breakfast),
beach/pool some more, take a late-afternoon nap, dinner then casinos. Many
nights we didn't get back to the room until after 3:00, and we would just sleep in the
next day..... ahhh..... I wish I were back!
We did not get the all-inclusive package, which was good in some ways and bad in others.
As far as food goes, they have good food, and there is certainly plenty of it. But how
much can a person eat! One good thing I heard about the Allegro's all inclusive plan is
that you are not a slave to their restaurants. They have "dine-around" passes
that allow you to eat at several restaurants
around the island. The drinks, on the other hand... it would be more beneficial to get the
all-inclusive plan because you have to drink alot to get drunk at the Allegro! I think my
only complaint would be that the drinks are very very weak. And since we were paying for
each one, it was frustrating. So I stayed away from too many frozen drinks and stuck to
beer.
We ate at different places, but our favorites ended up being right accross the street. The
"Tango" had excellent beef, and they have tango dancers to entertain you while
you eat. Right next to that is "Papparazzi" which is Italian, and extremely
reasonable for the great food they served. We ate one night at "Caruso's" which
is the Italian restaurant at the Allegro, it is very over-rated in my opinion.
I thought all of the staff at the hotel were wonderful. We saw the broadway show, which is
preceded by a great buffet dinner. The dancers put on various stage productions from all
the favorite broadway shows. We still can't decide whether it is better to go
all-inclusive or not, so next year we are going for 2 weeks. The first week is going to be
all-inclusive, and the second week we will be time-sharing it. The best of both worlds!
Sad to be back
