Aruba Trip Report - Allegro Resort

November 4 - 11, 2000

We traveled to aruba(our first time) and stayed at the Allegro. I had heard
mixed reviews but since I had gotten a 50 % off deal from being an
entertainment member I just had to try the resort. My husband and I travel
often only one other time we did the AI in Jamaica.

We arrived at 3:00 checkin was a breeze the hotel seemed nice but we had to wait 11/2 hours for room to be ready they told us half hour in the mean time my husband asked about a junior suite it was 350 extra but none were available we met 3 girls who were having there room switched because it only had one bed we saw there room 931 it looked out over ocean and Radisson and parking lot it was much better than our supposed pool-ocean view on 3rd floor so we switched. They complained and got the presidential suite!

First night was ok had buffet so so, if you like buffets than pretty good we hate alot of different meals all in one! Breakfast was good lots to choose
from hung out all day weather was great pool was too small!! But the beach
area was huge we went down early put our ( limited 2) towels down ON chairs under the Palapa around 7:00 then ate. We hung out all day - all drinks are not great. My husband was upset, all they had was tap beer, no bottles. Frozeb drinks are made already, just add watered down bottom shelf liquor! Anyway, lunch was a la carte, buffet dinner again. We saw a show after - not bad, gambled and lost.

Next day rented a convertible mustang from Econo. Great time touring the island for two days. Had dinner out at the Flying Fishbone on the beach - excellent food and atmosphere. The bill was about one hundred dollars, well worth the lobster and sirloin we had. Ate lunch at El Faro Lighthouse, great views - great food. For two days we were barely at the hotel.

We did a timeshare presentation at La Cabana one hour and received
US$ 165 in cashable chips at their casino - we lost that and more!!!!!!

Oh yeah, my husband complained about the bed at the Allegro, it was terrible, the mattress was all lumpy. They switched it immediately. Also the pay per view did not work in the room, they never fixed it. He complained 4 times. I was glad I did not want to watch any movies at night, I was exhausted!

We hung at the beach all week and also walked around a lot. The Hyatt us ver nice (gambled there one night) but the Radisson on the other side of us is unbelievable !!!!!!! All brand new and gorgeous, much better than the Hyatt. We ate dinner at the Sunset Grill - it was the best! Very expensive, very worth it. The staff was the best, they felt sorry for us when we complained about the Allegro. It was my birthday and they decorated a dessert plate in chocolate writing. We gambled all night in their casino and WON FINALLY! Everyone was winning, we were there till 4:00 am.

One night we did the Kukoo Kunuku Bus trip it was hilarious they pick you up around 5:00 p.m. and take you to the lighthouse fpr sunset and drinks, then dinner and barhopping all night. Fun with a lot of people.

We ate at Caruso one night it was OK. I guess nothing like an Italian dinner in New York! I had stuffed calamari, it was good. Hubbt gad penne Bolognese, he said it tasted like beefaroni, it was better than buffet again.

Allegro also has Papayas, at night we didn't try it though it only had four or five entrees and three appetizers - nothing special I heard.

Well there is too much to list about out trip. We love Aruba and will come back next year and stay at the Radisson definately! For all you reading this, I will tell it like it is in a nutshell, if you need to go all inclusive and don't mind bare essentials, go to the Allegro. For what we paid it was OK, I mean 700 a person for 7 days all inclusive is great. I didn't expect much going, but to pay 1500 a person is crazy. Don't go inclusive if you can and if you can go, don't stay at the Allegro. The Wyndham, Radisson, Marriott or Hyatt is the way to go.

Bad things about the Allegro: no room service after breakfast hours ,no where to get or even buy coffee (HAD TO WALK TO RADISSON OR DUNKIN DONUTS), staff is not that receptive to patrons not like when we visited the radisson and verbally made a reservation for dinner at there guest concierge desk, rooms are bare, carpets are filthy, balconies have no furniture, lobby is too small and there is not enough chairs or couches to sit and relax.

Good things about Allegro: beach area is large ,plenty of floats and chairs, plenty of activities, good breakfast, small but nice sports/disco bar, small
nice casino
