Marriott Beach Resort - Bill & Patty's Honeymoon!

October 15 - October 22, 2000

Bill and Patty

We traveled in October but have not had a chance to sit down and write this out yet. We went through a travel agent and got what we considered to be a good price by doing a GWV package.

It was our honeymoon. I got so much out of reading the trip reports before I left. Several people asked how many times we had been to Aruba based on my knowledge of the island but it was all taken from Trip Reports so here is mine.

The flight was fine. I don’t have terrific expectations of flying. We got there and back….. I’m happy.

I thought from some trip reports (must have been old one’s ) that the Aruba airport would be nasty. It looked brand new to me. I took the advice from one trip report and took a cab from the airport. No waiting around in old, smelly busses. We went right to the Marriott. Within an hour of landing we were having lunch on the Ocean…..beautiful.

I was told by my travel agent that I had an island view room. An Ocean view would have been about $800 more for the week. A month before our wedding I saw in one trip report an email address for the front desk manager from the Marriott so I popped her an email asking for an upgrade. She got right back to me and politely said they were sold out for the week but if it were possible she would try to help me. We were both psyched when we opened the door to our room. Seventh floor, huge balcony with a clear view of the Ocean. We had a couple of meals at the Hyatt and walked up and down the beach a number of times. If we ever go back we will stay at the Marriott. The people there act like it is a pleasure to serve you. I worked in hotels and restaurants for years. I could not believe the employees their…..wonderful!

Neither of us are big drinkers and we did not have money we were willing to lose gambling especially after all we spent on the wedding. We were more than happy to spend our time at the beach and the pool by day and out to a nice restaurant at night.

Our favorite we also discovered in the Trip reports, Madame Jeanettes. Great food, service and a really neat patio.

We also ate at Le Petit Café and El Gaucho’s.

I did not think El Gaucho’s was all I had heard it to be. I thought Le Petit Café made a much nicer Filet.

Two places we did not eat that I wish we had were Le Dome and the Restaurant at the Golf Course. (Sorry don’t know the name)

We went on a Sunset Cruise, went Para-Sailing, Snorkeling and Tubing. We went through Red Sail Sport right by our Hotel for most stuff.

We really did not do any tours because I did not read about one experience that made me believe it was worth leaving the beach.

I have taken about 5 cruises in the past through the Caribbean. I put Aruba up there as a Vacation spot goes for several reasons.

  1. You always feel safe

  2. The people are extremely polite and friendly

  3. The Water is beautiful and you pretty much have a great weather guarantee. We had sun and 93 degrees all week.

  4. There really are not a ton of Sights to see on the Island so you do not feel under pressure to get a lot of things in.

  5. The Marriott

I would not go there if I were into site seeing etc. I also would not consider a great place to bring young children. Toward the end of the week there were a good deal more of them. The screaming and crying did seem to shake that paradise sort of feeling.

Oh yea and if you are going don’t forget sunscreen. Both my wife and I tan well but used Sun Block 15 for most of the week. I still managed to get sun poisoning on my feet, ankles and chest. Lucky I am not a proud man. I wonder how I looked playing around in the pool in my socks, shirt and hat.

If you are going have fun!
