What a wonderful trip! - Marriott Ocean Club

October 15 - October 22, 2000

What a wonderful trip! Other than the long plane ride from Providence (through Atlanta), the trip was nothing less than spectacular.

We checked into the Marriott Club Sunday afternoon, and we pleasantly suprised at the size of the room - 3rd floor, oceanview - Full kitchen, microwave, 4 burner stove, full size fridge with icemaker (Suggestion, turn the icemaker on when you get in, and transfer the ice to the ice bucket and leave it in your freezer). 2 Balconies, strong air conditioning.

I'm not much of a gambler, the casino was in another building next door. if
you are a gambler, this is not your casino - Very small, only 15 tables or so.

We ate out every evening - I strongly recommend making reservations at least
one day early. Our favorite restaurants were:

Le Dome - Steak/Chop house, large menu, good prices, excellent service

Papiamento - An 150 old house, converted to a rest - Outside dining at it's
best

El Gaucho - Steakhouse - Better than Morton's or Chris Ruths - Best steak
I've ever had

La Vittola - Italian

Driftwood - Local seafood

2 others we ate at were, Twinklebones (OK food, but there is a dinner show, you're stuck there for at least 3 hours - only 2 seatings) and Tuscany, in the Marriott Hotel, the food was average.

There were 8 of us in our party, and we were suprised at the prices. The average cost (with one appetizer and 3 drinks - per couple) was $110.

The wives spent a morning shopping at the Seaport Mall, while the men took a fishing charter with Teaser Charters. Capt Milton and his mate Jimmy were very nice, but it was quite windy the day we went out.

We had lunch at Don Carlos that day, great local Arubian Soup!

A couple of things to keep in mind when travelling to Aruba - Contact your hotel before you leave to find out what long distance service they use, and purchase a pre-paid calling card (make sure it is international) on THAT service. The average minute cost to call home to Massachusetts was $5.15 -
Plenty of sunscreen.

Met a couple of great bartenders at the Marriott Ocean Club - Brian and Wilma - They made our days at the bar.

Any questions, please feel free to email me!

Enjoy your trip!

Brian
