Aruba Trip Report - Allegro Beach Resort

Hello!!! Fresh from our honeymoon in Aruba...it was wonderful!!! This is our
second time to Aruba. Thanks to DeanieD for all your suggestions! Here goes...

If you're from the Boston area, we paid $40 pp for Express Checkin. They
really did move us to the front of the line and we didn't have to wait in line on the way to Aruba or on the way home!!! It was great. And we got great seats at the front of the plane. We did pay the $40 pp for fuel...see below for more info on that!
The beach was beautiful. Got an hotel upgrade no problem! Suite 525 overlooking the ocean! beautiful! and I peeked into all the rooms that I could, and they all seemed pretty decent. No nightmare rooms like I expected after reading some of the trip reports! Got free champagne and t-shirts at the hotel services desk cause we were on our honeymoon. Had to wear wrist bands to show we were allzinclusive. This was really uncomfortable for the first part of the trip, but you get used to it. Went to El Gaucho restaurant--was ok, not as great as everyone says. But loved the little lounge across the street. Listened to some jazz music while smoking some good cigars!!! I got the vanilla honey one.! yum yum!

Went to Flying Fishbone for our romantic dinner on the beach. Was very good. But wished it was more secluded. There were other people on the beach with us. Next time, we'll go throught the Hyatt, they had private dinners on the beach lighted by a teaky torch. My husband did some jet skiing ($40 for 1/2 hour). Beach Olympics every tuesday on the beach! Very fun!!! Went to the Carnival Night at the Holiday Inn. Not worth $50 for the food, but the show was awesome! Rented a car from Economy (very rude!) for 2 days (wish we had more time with the car, tried to extend it, but they said it was going to cost another $50 for another day!) and went to Malmok (sp?) beach for some snorkeling. Beautiful beach! Didn't realize we could get free snorkeling gear from the Allegro beach hut. We went to Red Sail Sports and paid $10 each for the day! duh! Went to Malmok beach again, but it was on a saturday. more people there. best to go on a week day. And NO taxi's go by there so if you get dropped off, make sure you have them come back, or you'll have to walk to the main road and get the bus.

Saw the "Broadway" show at the Topaz restaurant (in the Allegro). It was excellent! But they were not signing, they were lip singing. Check out the Radison casino. Newly renovated...beautiful! Went to Caruso's Restaurant in the Allegro. Everything was really romantic, waterfalls, excellent appetizers, and very attentive service. BUT they said they are known for their Italian food, but it was terrible. I got the lasagna, which had no ricotta and the meat in it was terrible. My husband got pasta and meat sauce, same deal as with the lasagna. I will never fly Air Allegro again!!! They were terrible. No food, only snacks. On the way to Aruba, they were ok. But on the way home, they were 4 hours late, and then they stopped in Miami for an emergency fuel stop and wouldn't let anyone off the plane to make phone calls, etc. They didn't even tell us we were stopping until we were already on the plane! Not sure why we paid the $40 for fuel at the beginning of the trip if they didn't even remember to fuel up. I thought there was going to be a fist fight on the plane people were so mad (don't mess with Bostonians!). So all we had to eat was chips and a snickers bar for 12 hours. We didn't get home until 1:00 a.m.Then they took their sweet time sending the luggage out to the carousel! Warning...they have no restaurants in the Aruba airport, only one snack shop!
