Aruba Trip Report - Holiday Inn Beach Resort

September - 2 - September 10, 2000

We just returned from our first trip to Aruba and definitely feel we have
found paradise and are going to return hopefully someday soon. We stayed at
the Holiday Inn and while we had some mixed reviews prior to leaving on the
bulletine board found no complaints with the hotel. While not on the scale
of the Marriot or Hyatt (nor are the rates on their scale) we found it to be
clean, friendly and helpful. Be sure to join the priority club - we were
upgraded as well as receiving an additional discount on food and beverages
and a free full course meal with a bottle of wine. While we did a lot of
relaxing on the beach we did sail on the Mi Dushi for snorkeling and lunch -
a trip we would highly recommend at least on one of the boats if not the Mi Dushi and snorkeled on our own off the beaches at several different sites as
we had our own transportation - we rented a car from Economy and while it was nothing to write home about it did get us to where we needed to go and we paid a total of $225 for 8 days. We ate in several different places but
consider Madame Janettes and the Flying Fishbone to be excellent choices.
Both have excellent food, wonderful staffs and very romantic - the Flying
Fishbone is great at sunset (although very pricey). We had to ask directions
to find Madame Janettes but worth the effort to find - excellent food and
service and outside dining on the patio and we enjoyed a bottle of wine with
our dinner for under $50/couple.

Iguanas - whoever said they were running all over must have visited at a
differrent time from us - we found them only upon looking for them after
being there several days and they certainly did not come anywhere near us for petting.

We enjoyed walking on the beach at sunset and later and always felt perfectly safe. It truly is One Happy Island. Hope you all enjoy your trip as much as we did. .
