Aruba Trip Report - Holiday Inn Beach Resort
July 6 - July 16, 2000
Sent in by: Carla & Steve
We experienced our first trip to Aruba on July 6 - 16, 2000. We absolutely
loved it! However, we were very disappointed in our accommodations at the
Holiday Inn. The staff (with a few exceptions) was very unfriendly and not
very helpful. The food there was not good (thank goodness we did not have
an all-inclusive). The air conditioning in the room was very minimal. When
we called about it, they said they fixed it but there was really no change.
And, the light in the bathroom had to be switched on and off about 5 - 10
times before it would go on. I will admit that it was clean for the most
part and bug free, and the beach out back was nice. We walked all along
Palm Beach and noticed that the other resorts were more festive, and more
welcoming than the Holiday Inn also. One night we went to the Holiday Inn
lounge to hear the advertised band, but they never showed up! As far as our
other experiences, everything was wonderful! I highly recommend horseback
riding at Rancho Notorious ( purchase the cute "I am a Notorious Rider"
shirts) and climbing the Casibari rock formations. The Tunnel of Love cave
was a real experience -- if you don't like bats, don't go. But, I am glad
that I did it. The island is wonderful and romantic! We took nightly
walks along the beach and marveled at how relaxing it was. The Arubans are
so friendly! The cab drivers provided us with a wealth of information also.
We have been to Jamaica and there is no comparison with the wonders of
Aruba! We felt very unsafe in Jamaica -- but in Aruba we explored with no
fear (there are lots of security personnel everywhere -- not that they are
needed on this relatively crime-free island). Oh yes, and we had delicious
dinners at El Gaucho's
and Boonoonoonoo's (I
love that name!). We will
return to Aruba -- that is definite!
