Aruba Marriott Resort - Trip Report

June 9 - 16, 2000

Bon Bini Everyone !

We just returned from a 7 night stay at the Aruba Marriott Resort and Ocean
Club June 9th thru June 16th. I want to say it was the most beautiful and   picturesque place I have ever been to. I traveled with ten other people   including my four year old son.

Via Air Aruba direct flight from Baltimore Maryland to the island was great. The best air service I or any of the other passengers have ever received. If you like an open bar as early as 8am and hot food, not hot pockets or calzones, real food, you will love the Air Aruba flight and delightful staff. The airport is still under construction and without air condition it made the walk thru immigration a little uncomfortable. However the lines moved very fast. I had prearranged for a bus to take the group to the hotel, and other than the bus breaking down we had a driver who should be a stand up comedian. But all was well because as we dropped others off at various hotels, we got to see properties we may not have normally seen.

Upon arrival to the Marriott, we were greeted by Roy, one of the staff members, who we told we were going to fix him up with the only single woman in the group but he was already married. Any way, the hotel lobby was amazing. Casino, jewelry store, Bennetton's and a bar in addition to a kids game room. The staff made our check in easy and quick since I had five rooms. Because of a slight error on behalf of the New Jersey reservation office, the hotel upgraded my room to a Governor's suite. Upon opening the door, I thought I had gone to heaven. From the living room a wrap around balcony viewing the entire beach and overlooking the pool area. From the bedroom with a king bed, a private balcony again allowed the oceanfront view up and down the beach but still gave you privacy.

The La Vista restaurant staff was amazing. The remember faces, and always smile. The breakfast buffet was out of this world. It had everything you could imagine in addition to a regular menu. The Waves restaurant was pricey but worth it. We ate on the beach by candlelight. By the pool piņa coladas and daiquiris galore. The staff I can't say enough was fantastic. We visited Joey's
restaurant in addition to Don Carlo's. All the food was fantastic. The island
is expensive as far as food however, we found jewelry prices to be amazingly
low compared to the states. And I'm talking four carats or more, not anything
cheap.

It rained a couple of times but never more than two minutes at a time and never very hard. I recommend you tour the Island, it may be dusty and hot  but the other side is just as beautiful as the hotel side. There are amazing
homes with very distinct colors. Aruba was One Happy Island for sure.
Between everyone in my group we took about "36" rolls of film. This was all
my family not a business of any sort. We just decided to do something
different.

Upon our return home, my four year old son, said " Mom, can we
move to Aruba. He learned to swim and stayed in the ocean everyday. The pool area, was outstanding. I recommend the Marriott and for my family we are planning another trip for September this year. That's how much we liked the Aruba........... :)
