Allegro Beach Resort Trip Report

April 4-11, 2000

We honeymooned in Aruba and had a wonderful time! We decided to do the
all-inclusive at the Allegro, which is the ONLY way to go! Upon our arrival
we were informed that there was a special Honeymooner's gift package (Only
for those with proof of marriage date). It included great t-shirts and
champagne and a discount card for some attractions around the area. The
food was plentiful and tasty, the service was friendly and the frozen drinks
were delicious (but weak - you could have dozens and not feel a thing). We
found our room on the 6th floor to be adequate, with a lovely view of the
pool area and beach. However, it didn't appear to have been renovated for a
long time. The bathroom especially showed signs of age.

We were pleasantly surprised to receive "Dine Around" certificates that
allowed us to eat outside of the hotel at various participating restaurants,
with a $50 per person discount! Even though we enjoyed the buffets, which had a good variety of different foods, we had planned to eat out at some
restaurants that had been recommended by friends, which were mostly on the list. We went to Le Petit Cafe for lunch, and to the Driftwood and
Valentino's for dinner. All very good. There are also restaurants within
walking distance, if you are willing to ward off time share salesmen who lurk
around the streets.

We did a van tour of the island which was a good overview of all the main
attractions and was informative. The brochure said "air conditioned" bus, but
no such luck. The tour included the Lighthouse, the hand-carved altar, the
Natural Bridge and Baby Beach with lunch and a very quick swim.

As far as night life, the Allegro has dinner shows which are pretty good.
There is a Broadway Revue (mostly lip-syncing) and a couple of latin - dance
style shows which were high energy and fun to watch. The girls are scantily
clad which will keep the boys out there interested. Also, we found the
Allegro casino to be a hot spot, with $2 minimums at roulette and nickel
slots, even we could afford to lose!

The weather was just as expected, hot sun with a refreshing breeze throughout the day. Bring sun screen and something to anchor your belongings from the wind! If you decide to take a late-night dip in the pool or jacuzzi keep your towels close, it will be cold when you get out!

All in all we had a great honeymoon, and we give the Allegro two thumbs up.
Now I'm working on my husband, who says we can go back for our ten year
anniversary, but I want to see the Aruba sunset sooner!!
