Also, if you're a windsurfing fan at the end of the beach is the windsurfing center where you can rent a board or take a beginner lesson. I was a beginner and picked it up right away b/c there is a constant breeze in aruba. Also, where you windsurf you can be 200 yards off shore and in 2 feet of water-it was never over my shoulders. Even if you don't windsurf, it is nice to be lounging on the beach and look off to your right and see tons of windsurfers way out there. There is also a watersports hut at the other end of the beach where you can find anything you could possible imagine. There is a band from 4 to 6 every evening at the awesome beach bar. Occasionally a man on the staff will get a girl up and teach her to merange(?) and others end up joining in. Don't get me wrong-this is definitely a family place, but with young couples too. If you enjoy fish they have a simply fish restaurant every evening out on the beach. Also, the marriott has the best italian restaurant on the island. The lobby is also beautiful with a spacious uncrowded very open lobby bar with a big screen tv. It was nice to catch some of the ncaa basketball tournament while having a drink before dinner. The menu for lunch/snacks at the beach and pool bars was good too and not too expensive-same price as getting a chicken sandwich at houlihan's in the U.S. Aruba and the Marriott were just absolutely incredible. If you're having trouble deciding where to stay I'll give you some of our observations about the other 5 star hotels. The Marriott is on the end of palm beach but within walking distance of all the other hotels (about 5 min walk until you hit the next hotel). From there, it is hotel after hotel connected with a "sidewalk" with 10 feet of space in between and beaches that all overlap with each other. The holiday inn-don't stay unless you have kids. We walked by and there had to be 50 kids in the pool, and the pool area was cement with a former rusty beach bar they must be working on soon. The Radisson was nothing special-even having been redone. We did have a nice happy hour there but it is much more windy than the marriott because it doesn't have the hotel paralell to the shore to block the wind coming across the island. The Hyatt-everyone always asks-Hyatt or Marriott. They are both just as pricey but the Hyatt has much more noise and tourists walking in and out and I imagine others were using the pool too. The Hyatt is so close to the hotels on either side that the beach areas overlap and we ate there one night at the restaurant on the beach and people are walking up and down the side walk right next to you and stopping to hear the band. We also went in the casino there and found the same thing in the lobby. It does have very nice restaurants and a cool pool but seemed really crowded with a lot of traffic. We are in our late 20s and will be coming back to
the marriott time and again
