La Cabana Beach Resort- One Cool Honeymoon

Trip Report August 17 - August 24, 1999

My wife and I arrived via American Airlines and it was smooth sailing from the start. We booked our all inclusive package through Liberty Travel and again had no problem. We were there from 8/17-8/24. We were met at the airport in Aruba by Depalm Tours, and they were very friendly and even offered an "orientation" session by various tour agencies on the Island. We stayed for 8 days and 7 nights, which was more than enough time to see all the sights. At LaCabana, we had no problems with our all inclusive package being registered. However, the one problem I had was with the front desk clerk who really didn't explain what we could  expect. She just handed me a bunch of papers and my honeymoon bucket and said "Have a wonderful trip". Later in our room, it was wonderful. We had a grand suite which was a one bedroom in the newer building. The view was wonderful, even if it wasn't of the beach and my only complaint was that although our room was fully equipped, we were told on several occasions not to turn the A/C off, even though our room was like an Icebox. We spent many nights under several layers of covers and blankets, which is ridiculous for a tropical island.

Later in the trip, we used all of our vouchers, which LaCabana so graciously offered. At the end, we even had several to return that were unused! The staff who worked at the different restaurants were all Great! They were friendly and courteous, but I must admit the service was really, really slow. We must have waited at least 20 minutes to eat at both on-site restaurants. They tend to
seat you quickly, but serve you slowly. The jewel box revue was really funny, but the Casino itself wasn't anything to write home about. I lost a lot of money there before I finally decided to go to the Crystal Casino, who not only made you feel good about losing your money with all the free drinks and snacks you can handle, but also allowed you to win a few times too. I won $200.00 there which I used to buy souvenirs. As far as attractions, we recommend the Mi Dushi sponsored by Depalm tours, but whatever you do, don't even bother going to the "Tatoo", unless you are into the "oldies" and handholding in terms of how to party.(For example, the deejay played the theme from Hawaii five O and expect folks to boogie to it) We were so bored that when the boat got close to shore downtown, we begged the captain to let us off and he did. (This was the night I hit it big at the Crystal Casino) The beaches are beautiful, especially at Eagle Beach and both the pools and beaches at LaCabana are very well kept. Overall, we had a wonderful time at LaCabana and would recommend it; especially for a family trip. We were so impressed that we bought a time share there!

Sincerely,

A&L Wilson
