Learn MoreWelcome to the University of Aruba!
The University of Aruba (UA) has catered to the higher educational needs of Aruba for 35 years and has contributed to the educational formation of a number of professionals occupying key positions in the Aruban economy.
The UA currently offers seven (7) major areas of study as well as an Academic Foundation Year – where fresh out of high school students are guided and provided with formative tools and skills to master higher academia and have an opportunity to discover their calling. The university’s physical facilities have grown right alongside the community it serves and, like Aruba, the UA is an active participant on the international scene, partnered with major international universities, as well as a proud recipient of the Erasmus+ grant for students and staff mobility. The possibilities for staff and students are therefore amplified with international experience.
For the lifelong learners within our community, the UA provides continuous education for holistic human development and personal growth.
The UA welcomes students from all walks of life. From continuing education to PhD programs in select faculties – the UA has something for everyone. Come and see how much you can achieve at the UA.
Colonization as epistemic vitality: Language and discourse in colonial and formerly colonial contexts
The workshop will consist of two parts. In the first part, scheduled for Monday, April 8, 2024, Michael Meeuwis will share his views on how the notion of decolonization should be understood most profitably. He will specifically emphasize the decolonization of epistemologies and discourses on language and identity, discuss important recent and current theoretical thinkers, and provide examples from the Global South that offer insights into achieved milestones and future directions. Throughout this discussion, he will highlight how the Global North traditionally recognized as ‘science’ and ‘scientific truths’ is often rooted in patterns of (neo)colonial epistemological violence.

Symposium Series: Slavery – Past & Present in Aruba
Commemorating the history of slavery is crucial to promote understanding, empathy, and awareness and to draw attention to the ongoing challenges against contemporary forms of slavery, institutional racism, and inequality. In 2023, we reflect on the abolition of slavery in the Kingdom of the Netherlands; however, in 2023, we still witness acute forms of human smuggling and trafficking. It is the aim of the University of Aruba to address this and related subject matters through symposium followed by a series of lectures addressing past and contemporary slavery from different perspectives and disciplines.
