The
18th edition of the Aruba Hi-Winds will be held from June 30 till July 6 2004 at
the renowned "Fisherman's Huts". Since its early years in the mid-eighties,
when windsurfing greats like Robby Naish and Bjorn Dunkerbeck
raced in Aruba year after year, the Aruba Hi-Winds has remained the biggest name in
windsurfing events in the Caribbean, now including freestyle windsurfing and kiteboarding.
Join
us at Aruba Hi-Winds: have the best time this side of paradise. Aruba is blessed with
almost ideal wind- and water conditions for windsurfing and kite boarding. The island is
outside the hurricane belt with an average temperature of 82ê† and an annual rainfall of
less than 20 inches.
So,
whether you're a traditional down-wind slalom racer, a fearless freestyler or if
you've joined the newest craze in water sports: kite-boarding,
the Aruba Hi-Winds 2004 is there for you!

The
organizing committee aims to reach as many sailors as possible, young and young at heart,
beginners and experienced. Therefore, we have put together some very attractive deals on accommodation and registration fees. Don't think the Aruba
Hi-Winds are out of your reach!
Besides
being the biggest windsurfing event in the Caribbean, the Aruba Hi-Winds is renowned for
having an extensive and/or exhausting entertainment and social program for its competitors
and friends. Participating in the Aruba Hi-Winds means partying from start to finish!
Don't miss the fun!

RULES KITEBOARDING |
Safety and fair play are the
most important aspects of the competition. Unsafe riders will be disqualified. Leeward
riders have right of way, therefore Windward riders should not jump when a leeward rider
is close to them. When crossing paths a windward rider should keep his kite up high while
a leeward rider should keep his kite down.
Riders must not change course
to obstruct another rider nor jump near or over other competitors.
Riders should stay clear of
the competition area when not competing.
Riders should not land jumps
on the beach and should stay clear of any natural obstructions or permanent fixtures such
as boats (including rescue- and jury boat) near or in the competition area. (Infringements
on any of the above rules could result in disqualification at the discretion of the
head judge)
Each rider is responsible for
checking his heat number. This will be posted on the official notice board at least
half an hour before the start of the first heat.
Riders are required to wear
the official contest lycra shirt during their heats. Riders should check in with the
marshal two heats prior to competing and will receive a color lycra shirt which will
identify them to the judges. Competitors not wearing the shirt during their heats will not
be scored. After the rider has completed his heat, the lycra shirt must be returned to the
beach marshal when returning to the beach.
The Contest Director, Head
Judge and Event Organizer will collectively make the decision as to the suitability of the
conditions for running heats.
The freestyle judging criteria
will be overall impression, taking in consideration technical difficulty, height and
smoothness, including landings.
Judges will take brief notes
of the moves performed during the heats, but will not assign moves a numerical value in
their notes.
There shall be a single
elimination for the freestyle competition.
