Jouvert Morning - San Nicolas
February 24,2001
by Rona Coster

Click to Enlarge!Hands down the best carnival activity of the season. We woke up at 2:30 a.m., and after two cups of French Vanilla, were on the road to San Nicolas. What traffic! This year many thousands of people participated in Carnival’s opening festivities, more than ever. The parade launched at 4 a.m. but took a while to get going. It is usually cooking as it hits DOOV, this time it was bubbling further down, blowing full force by BSL Laundry. We found a nice niche, ahead of Climaxx, with lots of shoulder room.

Originally, I thought we would be trailing No Break Organization, but the condense masses with ants in their pants in the back of Kevin, Nico & Marlon’s truck was simply overwhelming. No doubt, Jouvert Morning crossed over, from an underground, hip activity to mainstream. It’s now a must-do, on everyone’sClick to Enlarge! agenda. I’ve never turned this corner in the dark, said Rusty, and he is right, the parade was more-rushed than ever, thus we experienced day-break back at the Sport Park instead on living it up in the village. But the chamber pots were there; the crazy pajamas were there - this year with an added new twist, the whitewashed paint and Oreo was fantastic. See you again, next year . . .
