Snorkel & Scuba

Wave Dancer Snorkeling CruisesSnorkeling is usually done in shallow waters for the best view possible of hundreds of tropical fish which can be seen in Aruba. All you need is a diving mask, snorkel (breathing tube) and the ability to swim! Many people prefer flippers (fins) for added propulsion to cover longer distances more easily. Snorkeling trips, including boat rides to and from the site are available and snorkeling gear can be rented.

Aruba also has many Scuba Diving operators who offer scuba divers the opportunity to take advantage of Aruba's clear blue waters filled with an huge variety of coral and fish of infinite color and hues. If you have never experienced scuba diving before, you can take a Resort Certification Scuba Diving Course so that you don't miss out on the thrilling beauty of Aruba's underwater world. Visibility under favorable conditions is up to 90 feet and the water temperature is seldom below 78 F.

Aruba Pro DiveOff the northwest tip of the island, near Palm Beach, lies the hulk of the Antilla, a German ship that was scuttled at the beginning of World War II. It has become a favorite scuba spot and attracts many underwater photographers.

Especially recommended for scuba diving are the areas near Malmok, Spanish Lagoon and Commandeurs Baai where a popular diving instructor operates from.

Scuba is such a big attraction in Aruba that we have dedicated our Diving section to it.

Sun Tips

Sun1.gif (1772 bytes)In the tropics the sun's rays beat down with greater intensity than in the temperate climates. For this reason you will need to take greater precautions against sunburn.

Start off with short exposures in the sun: 20-40 minute periods alternated with equal time spent in the shade. Drink plenty of liquids to avoid dehydrating. People having very fair skin would do well to avoid exposure to the sun at times when its rays are strongest, namely between 11am and 3pm. It is also advisable to use adequate UV protection when exposed.

Keeping these things in mind could mean the difference between a fun-filled vacation or a pain-filled one!
